Flow state

I have a couple of side projects cooking, both of which require skills that I’m not very good at, like audio engineering, editing, and speaking concisely. I say “like” — like a lot.

In my mind’s eye, I can see what I want to produce, but what ultimately comes out of the Loren Factory™ does not meet those standards. At least not yet.

(I know I’ve posted that video before. It’s good.)

The part about learning something new though, that I’m absolutely loving, is flow state. That feeling of opening up a project after dinner and digging into it only to look up at the time and realize its 12:44 a.m. on a Friday. Or, deciding to “tweak something real quick” on the project, looking up and suddenly it’s 3:30 a.m. My body snapping back to reality, realizing it needs liquids and sleep. As tired as I was both of those days, it was completely worth it. ~~I’d do it~~ I will do it again in a heartbeat.

I rarely find my flow at my real job. I’m not sure if it’s all the context switching, or if design, while interesting, is not mentally stimulating me the way it was 5–10 years ago. For now, I’m just happy I’ve found it again.
