Good Jobs #84: Hiring spree

A friend recently asked if I had noticed any changes in the number of jobs out there, you know, with all the recent layoffs.
To answer my friend’s question: No.
I spend a couple hours each week reviewing and compiling jobs and there’s a metric sh*t ton of them and that’s even after I remove the sketchy crypto ones. Compare this to early pandemic, say this time in 2020, where it took me forever to find just 5-10 good ones.
I chalk it up to a couple things:
Remote work has become much more the norm. More companies are going remote which means more opportunities available to those not living in tech cities. This is great news for us Boise people.
Big tech has been hoarding talent for over a decade. Now that they are loosening their grip and realizing how inefficient that is, it’s giving everyone else the chance to snap up good people.
There are a few things I have noticed about the jobs lately:
Junior and associate jobs pretty much do not exist right now. It’s rough out there for those starting out. Help them in whatever way you can… like hire them.
Mid-level jobs are also hard to come by. I try to have a diverse selection of job levels in the newsletter, but these days most of them start with senior.
Marketing jobs have slowed to a trickle as companies have tightened or cut budgets. They are harder to come by with far more applicants. I found an ad campaign manager position posted a week ago that already had 600 applicants. Oof.
Listing compensation within the job post has become more of the norm. This is rad! You’ll notice I’ve been putting pay ranges next to jobs when I can find them. That was rare just a couple years ago. Also, the comp for that backend engineer gig at Netflix is not. a. typo.
