Feeling things

You may have noticed it’s been a month since the last Good Jobs Report. I had planned on sending one out at the usual cadence, but some sudden and unfortunate things happened and we had to say goodbye to our friend and family member Olive the dog.

This isn’t a sad story though.

Well, at least I hope not.

In saying goodbye to Olive I was struck by how visceral and emotional it was. I’ve spent the last couple years, if not longer, using my phone and social media to distract myself from processing hard, emotional, and confusing things. This time I chose to steer directly into the mess and I’m thankful I did.

I’m now actively trying to be a bit more present in the physical world and a bit less present in the digital ones. There’s something really freeing to know I don’t need to know. The breaking news, the memes, the hot takes, can all wait until tomorrow.

P.S. It’s not lost on me that the above note reads like some emotionally stunted white guy working out his problems to a group of people who just want job links. It absolutely is that.
